Gothenburg born Dj, producer and label owner Fredrik Nyberg, aka Dj Nibc, Stuffa, and Tyken, has long been a key player in Sweden’s music scene. Starting his Dj career in the early 90s, coming from an emerging suburban hiphop scene, he discovered techno and rave parties and founded one of the first local networks and resources for spreading underground music and digital art. During a time before commercial Internet access became common he operated a local BBS(Bulletin Board System), which became an important initial connetion that later grew in to the design concept of the Trunkfunk’s vinyl artwork.
By the mid 90s he had discovered his love for house music and at the turn of the decade began playing regularly at legendary clubs throughout Gothenburg. As well as being a resident at Gothenburgs’s legendary weekly sunday night ‘Baby’, he’s played gigs around the world, most notably at The Womb in Tokyo, but also covering big festivals, radio stations and clubs in all the surrounding Nordic countries and cities like New York, Miami, London, Paris, Rio De Janeiro, Ibiza, and Barcelona.
Fredrik’s preternatural understanding of hiphop history helped him conjure mixes of urban elements that conjured in his productions. Before relocating to Berlin, Fredrik was a key conceptual force behind the Swedish based Bagheera & VS parties with partners-in-crime Johan Von Arnold and Jonas Rathsman. Fredrik is still closely connected to Gothenburg as a party host and resident DJ at Gothenburg’s ‘The Eye’ Club along with friends Göran Dahlström and Cazuma Mori.
His debut single ‘Deliverance'(2001) really helped establish Dj Nibc as an artist in the house scene receiving universal acclaim from both Djs and critics alike. He followed up with the Ministry of Sound release ‘Every Word’, an across-the-board success, crowning charts and getting heavy radio rotation around the globe.
Since then Trunkfunk has been one of the most in demand independent labels, with releases from The Touch, David Ekenbäck and Trevor Loveys showcasing the underground sound of Fredrik’s arsenal winning support from the likes of Axwell, Roger Sanchez and Annie Mac.
The first single ‘A Million Secrets’ off the much awaited Stuffa (Fredrik’s seminal pairing with Jonas Rathsman) debut album looks set to rival the cult status that ‘Pretty Girls’ generated last summer.
Always innovating and combining versatile sounds. Fredrik has managed to fuse commercial success with huge underground credibility that isn’t likely to end any time soon..
